Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
