The Video Platform Offers Users Power to Decrease AI-Generated Media in Personal Streams

Users will soon have a new feature that allows them to lessen the volume of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their timelines. This initiative comes as the service disclosed that it now features more than 1 bn content made with AI.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The update is undergoing trials over the coming weeks before a full-scale launch. This advancement aligns with a surge in AI content, driven by new AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

Studies have shown that almost a tenth of the fastest-growing channels on another major platform only show content made by AI. A large amount of this content is deemed low-quality AI content, a label for poor-quality, factory-style content that is frequently absurd or dreamlike.

Our research shows that a lot of users enjoy content produced via AI tools, including AI artwork to educational videos, and we want to provide users the power to increase or decrease of that, based on their own preferences,” said a spokesperson.

Scale of AI Content

The platform disclosed that there are presently 1.3bn videos on its service identified as AI-generated. Overall, in excess of 100 m pieces of content are added to the service each day, making AI-generated material a limited percentage of its total content library.

Customizing Your Feed

Members will be capable of limit or boost the level of artificial media they watch by accessing the content preference feature in the platform and selecting the AI content topic. Further subjects that can already be modified under the filter include news, fashion, beauty, and movement.

AI Disclosure Rules

The platform’s rules mandate content makers to label lifelike AI-made content, and it forbids malicious fake videos of celebrities or critical incidents. Any realistic AI video that is unmarked can be taken down under its terms of service.

Furthermore, the service will from now on apply an “AI-made” watermark to content produced via its own AI tools, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for identifying AI-generated material. This step is aimed to stop users from trying to circumvent the tagging system.

Responsible AI Funding

The company is furthermore introducing a $2m educational fund for experts and institutions to create educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will benefit charitable organizations focused on teaching coding and technology.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has defended its moderation strategy, following discussion over intentions to lay off numerous review team members in the United Kingdom. It is expected to eliminate a significant number of roles in its trust and safety department in the UK capital, with labor groups and digital protection specialists expressing worry that staff are being displaced by automated systems.

A trust and safety lead explained that human moderation would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can safeguard staff by filtering out the most graphic content before it gets reviewed by humans. TikTok announced a 76% decrease in shocking and graphic content seen by human moderators over the past year due to the use of its automated systems.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate humans and technology to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with unsafe media as swiftly, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is really helping us operate efficiently.”
